2014 Innovation Fund

The New Dawn In­no­va­tion Fund en­ables in­vestors the op­por­tu­nity to grow their money through the CEDIF struc­ture while also grow­ing the com­mu­nity in which they live and work.

In 2014, New Dawn an­nounced a new and in­no­v­a­tive CEDIF company that would provide in­vestors with the op­por­tu­nity to sup­port local, innovative, growth-oriented companies. The New Dawn In­no­va­tion Fund en­ables in­vestors the op­por­tu­nity to grow their money through the CEDIF struc­ture while also grow­ing the com­mu­nity in which they live and work.

Along with New Dawn Holdings and New Dawn Community Investment Limited, the New Dawn Innovation Fund forms part of the New Dawn CEDIF family of companies and is overseen by a volunteer board of directors.

The New Dawn CEDIF family of companies have been participating in the CEDIF program since 2003/2004. These companies have overseen the offering of nine CEDIFs amounting to $11 million in locally invested capital. The 2014 New Dawn Innovation Fund raised $1.2 million for local investment. Funds have been invested in:

Halifax Biomedical Halifax Biomedical Inc. (HBI) is an Evidence-Based Orthopaedic clinical measurements company headquartered in Mabou. HBI is a world leading provider of micro-instability assessment services using very precise proprietary Stereo Radiography (SR) imaging technology (HALIFAX exams). Founded in 2005, Halifax Biomedical now employs 17 specialists in medical imaging technology and has projected sales of $10.6 million for 2015. CEDIF fund have been used by the company to refine a Mobile Imaging Unit for use in number of American hospitals.

NovaStream: Located in downtown Sydney and co-owned by Scott Moore and Darcy Campbell, NovaStream provides video production, live streaming and professional event visuals. With a number of major contracts lined up for 2015, CEDIF funds have been used to upgrade commercial camera, computer, projection and live streaming equipment, and to take advantage of emerging and rapidly growing opportunities for live video streaming throughout Atlantic Canada.

Protocase: Founded in 2001 by Steve Lilley and Doug Milburn Protocase drafts and manufactures custom electronic enclosures for designers and engineers. With a staff of 60 and a turn-around time of two to three days, Protocase has established a growing customer base of 4,000 companies and individuals, including IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Stanford University, Apple, Boeing, GE, Intel, Microsoft and Motorola.

We are in Unama’ki, one of the seven traditional and unceded ancestral territories of the people of Mi’kma’ki. This territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship which the Mi’kmaq first signed with the British Crown in 1726.
