ETLE’K – The Embers of the Fire Are Still Going

DATE: Jan 31—Mar 25, 2022
LOCATION: Gallery 203

ETLE’K embraces the winter sky and gently nudges us to the fire to keep us warm while we stargaze.

In late October, on the eve of the Eltuek Naming Ceremony, three artists joined us as interns in residence at Eltuek from Eskasoni First Nation. Now in this new year, we are sharing with you the work of artists Isaac Gould and Chanelle Julian, the great-grandchild of poet Rita Joe, in a special exhibition in Eltuek’s main gallery called, ETLE’K – The Embers of the Fire are Still Going.

Like in the many Indigenous stories of star people, the sun wants to be with the moon, just as we recognize our soul wants to be with art and a creative life. So, we do all that we can to engage with art always.

This is reflection on and continuation of the work we will do together for years to come as artists and community.

We hope you will take the time over the next number of weeks to visit Eltuek Gallery 203 to take in their artwork, read the words of Rita Joe, for some light and reflection on life, spirit, and the cosmos during these darker days of winter.
