“The Meals on Wheels program depends on community volunteers to thrive,” says Kathleen Whelan, Program Coordinator for New Dawn Meals on Wheels.
“All of our meals are delivered to the doorsteps of our clients to help remove transportation barriers. This would not be possible without our team of volunteers.”
“Through the New Dawn Meals on Wheels Volunteer Program, we want to ensure that members in our community, especially seniors, remain active and contribute to community-based programming,” says Whelan.
Donnie and Elaine MacRae said when they started volunteering, they were going to try it out and deliver a few meals. Seventeen years and over 7000 meals later, the two continue to deliver for the program and enjoy every minute of it.
“We just love meeting people and we feel that these people are now a part of our family,” says Donnie MacRae. “It’s something we really enjoy. We feel like we’re giving back to the community.”
