Cape Breton Island Centre for Immigration moves into new downtown location

For the past three years, CBICI has been operating out of the New Dawn Centre for Social Innovation (former Holy Angels High School). Having outgrown our space there, we are happy to share with you that we’ve just settled into our brand new expanded downtown location on the first floor of the historic Crowell’s building (at the corner of Prince and Charlotte Streets).

This new location offers our clients a bright, modern, central, accessible space for meeting with our settlement counsellors, attending workshops, hosting meetings of their own, and connecting with the downtown business community.

We are excited to join the downtown community as it works toward renewal and revitalization — and we are excited to contribute to collective efforts to together become a more diverse, more welcoming Island.

Founded in 2016, the Cape Breton Island Centre for Immigration (CBICI) is dedicated to welcoming newcomers to Cape Breton. We work to orient, support, connect, advocate on behalf of, and otherwise meet the needs of newcomers in service of their successful settlement in Cape Breton.

Our Centre works with refugees, economic immigrants, permanent residents, international students, and many others as they make our community their new home.

“Immigration is vital to our future here,” says Sohaila Abdo, Manager, CBICI. “We are humbled to see so many amazing newcomers choosing Cape Breton as a place to study, work, and live.”

As of February 20, 2020, our new space has officially opened. We encourage newcomers, visitors, and community members to stop by and meet some of our wonderful staff, mingle with clients, and enjoy our new space!
