Relation: five emerging artists

The Blue Building Gallery is an artist-led contemporary commercial gallery in the north end of Kjipuktuk/Halifax, Nova Scotia. Since opening in 2021, it has provided a 1,400-square-foot purpose-built art gallery for artists to show and sell their work. The gallery lives within 2482 Maynard, a building that offers accessible studio space for independent artists and long-term space for artist-led non-profits.

Eltuek and The Blue Building programming share a kinship rooted in a love of art, storytelling, and the strength of both established and emerging voices. Both are deeply committed to supporting the artistic community of Nova Scotia. Curated by Blue Building gallery director Emily Falencki, this exhibition brings five artists to Unama’ki, Cape Breton Island, introducing new visual languages and identities to our community. It invites Eltuek artists and audiences to experience fresh ways of seeing and making in this moment.

Collaboration between sister spaces like these makes room for reflection, dialogue, experimentation, and the creative gestures that shape cultural life.

We are grateful to the participating artists for sharing their work with us this winter season.

We are in Unama’ki, one of the seven traditional and unceded ancestral territories of the people of Mi’kma’ki. This territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship which the Mi’kmaq first signed with the British Crown in 1726.
