New Dawn leads expansion of After School Program in Cape Breton

This fall, New Dawn is launching a new After School Program for children ages 4 to 12 at four schools in the CBRM: Tompkins Memorial Elementary, St. Anne’s Elementary, Donkin School, and John Bernard Croak VC School.

This is the first time New Dawn is offering after school care. April Benoit, the organization’s Manager of Early Childhood Education, is leading the initiative. She has worked with the provincial department of education and the schools to conduct needs assessments for each site, to identify and hire staff, to coordinate indoor and outdoor spaces for the program, and to develop the curriculum.

We are in Unama’ki, one of the seven traditional and unceded ancestral territories of the people of Mi’kma’ki. This territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship which the Mi’kmaq first signed with the British Crown in 1726.
