Trustee, Community Support
Job Description
Duties & Responsibilities
- Act as a trustee or payee for clients receiving government or private income (e.g., income assistance, disability benefits, pensions)
- Manage client accounts responsibly: receive funds, allocate monthly budgets, and ensure timely payment of essential expenses such as rent, utilities, and insurance
- Support clients in setting short- and long-term financial goals, such as saving for essentials, accessing benefits, or repaying debt
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, statements, and reports for each client, ensuring full accountability and transparency
- Communicate regularly with clients in a non-judgmental and respectful manner, explaining budgets and decisions clearly and accessibly
- Liaise with landlords, banks, government agencies, and other service providers to coordinate payments and ensure continuity of services
- Collaborate with partner/community agencies to support clients’ broader social, housing, and wellness goals
- Stay current with relevant policies, benefit programs, and income support systems to ensure clients are receiving all entitlements
- Provide support for a caseload of up to 24 individuals within the trusteeship program
- Liaise and maintain relationships with landlords and property managers within Port Hawkesbury and Richmond County
- Develop and implement financial literacy workshops for individuals in the program; assist with securing tax filing resources and benefits identification resources
- Complete and maintain organizational records, assessments, daily statistics and files, and ensure confidentiality is protected
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in internal team meetings as required
- Look for potential improvements and help implement solutions
- Maintain quality, safety and the confidentiality of employees, clients, and volunteers
- Maintain professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity so as to portray New Dawn in a positive manner, consistent with its values and vision
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, engaging in professional networks, and participating in professional organizations
- Respond to the needs of others with effective communication, mutual respect, and consistent follow through to build trust and workplace relationships
- Promote the mission and values of New Dawn both internally and externally
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- University Degree or Diploma in a related field such as finance, social work, accounting or community services
- Minimum 1 (one) year experience required
- Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite of applications
- Compassion, empathy, diplomacy, and problem solving
- Experience working with and advocating for vulnerable populations
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and with guidance
- Exceptional attention to detail and verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with others toward shared goals
- Highly organized and ability to work well under pressure
- Proficiency with Microsoft suite of programs and applications
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability
- Understands servant leadership and community-centricity
Work Conditions
- Use of desktop computer and peripherals
- Interaction with employees, volunteers, management, clients and the public
- Travel may be required
- Overtime may be required; working evenings/weekends as needed
- Environment can be busy and/or noisy at times
